What is Physical Therapy?

According to the APTA, Physical Therapists are experts in “the science of healing and the art of caring.” Physical Therapists develop an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health, healing and independent living, restores function, provides relief from pain, and educates patients on preventing re-injury. Physical Therapists utilize scientific principles, physical modalities and exercise to identify, assess, correct and alleviate physical dysfunction.

What does ProSport PT offer over other PT practices in Orange County?

We’ve been around since 1992, providing comprehensive, personalized care to the community. Our expert clinicians remain at the forefront of advances in physical therapy techniques. Members of the ProSport staff come from diverse clinical backgrounds, enabling them to provide well-rounded expertise and full-service care. Our therapists continue to add to their knowledge base by taking continuing education courses each year. Many of our aides are Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs). We are one of the few physical therapy clinics in Orange County to provide Pilates instruction with licensed Physical Therapist Assistants. Additionally, many members of our staff have been with ProSport for five years or more, exhibiting dedication, loyalty and belief in the ProSport mission. Our team members are athletic by nature — many played sports in high school and college, and they understand the way the human body works. We will do whatever it takes to help a patient return to optimal performance.

ProSport actively participates in physical therapy research, participating as a clinical site for USC’s National MUSSEL study. We are also an education outlet for physical therapy students from USC, Chapman University and California State University, Long Beach and Cerritos College. PTA students and Athletic Training students from Chapman and Concordia Universities have also earned credits at ProSport.

We have an inviting, friendly and clean environment with extended hours to accommodate most anyone’s schedule. Our long-term, positive relationships with high school, college and professional athletes, combined with our outstanding reputation within the medical and orthopedic communities is unmatched anywhere in Orange County.

Do I need a physician referral before I can be treated at ProSport?

Yes. California state law requires a physician's referral for treatment to be rendered. A physician's referral is valid for 30 days from the date it is written.  We also treat cash-only patients without a physician referral. We also perform free physical therapy injury consultations and fee for service cash visit treatments.

How much will it cost to receive physical therapy services?

The type of insurance coverage and the number of necessary visits for proper treatment determine the total investment. Patients only need to pay their insurance co-payment at each visit.

Do insurance plans cover physical therapy costs at ProSport?

Most medical insurance plans cover the majority of treatment costs, although this varies depending on the type of insurance. Every patient’s situation is unique depending on the type of insurance coverage they have. We work closely with each patient before their first visit to verify their insurance coverage and work out all financial arrangements. We will submit all necessary paperwork to the insurance company for payment.

How many times will I need to come for treatment?

Each patient's treatment plan is unique. The amount of time necessary for recovery depends on the injury/illness, motivation and capabilities of each person.

How long will each physical therapy session last?

Approximately 60 to 90 minutes per visit. Therapy depends on the extent of the injury and the goals of the patient. We don’t put time limits on visits. This ensures that we’re providing the best treatment for the patient and doing what is medically necessary.

What should I expect during my first visit?

When you call in, we will schedule a convenient appointment time, verify your insurance coverage and review all financial details. During your first appointment, you will have a 60-minute private evaluation with a licensed physical therapist. Depending on your situation, you may also receive some type of treatment, exercise or flexibility/stretching program. Treatment modalities can include hot packs, cold packs, electric stimulation and/or ultrasound. You will be given one-on-one, hands-on care with a therapist who will create a personalized regime for you to follow.

After your first visit, a team approach is put into motion. You will be assigned to a team consisting of a physical therapist and a physical therapist assistant. All treatment plans are developed by a licensed physical therapist and the patient’s physician, and carried out by the Physical Therapist (PT) and/or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA).
