Physical Therapy

According to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) physical therapy is the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of movement dysfunctions and the enhancement of the physical health and functional abilities of members of the public.

Physical Therapists (PT's)

Physical therapists take a personal and direct approach to meeting an individual's needs and concerns by focusing on both preventing injuries and helping individuals recover from them. They are respected members of the health care team and treat  patients in a variety of settings including private practice, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and sports facilities. Physical therapists hold either a Master's or Doctorate degree and must complete a national licensure exam.

Physical Therapist Assistant's (PTA's)

Physical therapists assistants are skilled healthcare providers who work under the supervision of a physical therapist. Their duties include assisting the PT in implementing treatment programs according to the plan of care and reporting to the PT on the patients' response to treament. PTA's must complete a two year associates degree and pass a licensure exam.

Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC's)

Certified Athletic Trainers are professionals who work in the athletic field by preventing, recognizing, and evaluating athletic injuries on the field of play. They are usually the first responders to an athletic injury and give immediate emergency care or first aid. Athletic Trainers hold either a Bachelor's or Master's degree and must pass a national certification exam.  

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS)

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists are professionals who apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic perfomance. They conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training, and provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention. Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists hold at least a Bachelor's degree and must pass a national certification exam.
